St. John's Giant Slayers

Yesterday on ESPN, Stan Verrett called St. Johns the "Giant Slayers" taking note that they have defeated four ranked teams one of which included The Duke Blue Devils. Last night the team traveled over to face Marquette for their second road game in two days, Cincinnati this past Sunday, and did what everyone expected them to do. Win.

The Johnnies or now, Giant Slayers, have proven they can win at home (8-3) they've proven they can win on the road (8-6), they have proven they can win Tournaments (Great Alaskan Shootout, Holiday Festival) and they have proven they can beat ranked opponents (4 wins verse top 25). Key phrase here ladies and gentlemen, THEY HAVE PROVEN.

Here is their resume so far:

Record: 16-9
Strength of Schedule: 2nd (IN THE NATION)
RPI: 17
Key Wins: Duke, UCONN, Georgetown, Notre Dame and Marquette. (I put Marquette as a key win because they are a very tough team, possible tournament bound team and it was on the road).
Key Losses: St. Bonaventure, Fordham.

Joe Lunardi, Mr. Bracketology, has St. Johns as the #7 seed in the tournament.

It's all there for The Johnnies. The numbers, the resume and the attention. The only question left to be answered is, can they finish strong?
