By Ear Mixtape Review: Rahiem Supreme
This week on the mixtape circuit is the review of the DMV bred lyricist Rahiem Supreme's mixtape "Official Genesis". The overall message and vibe of the mixtape is easily detected once listening to each and every track. The production has a solid variety and even includes a few old school beats where Rahiem Supreme goes off lyrically.
The tracks in which opened my eyes to the distinctive Rahiem Supreme lyrical flow coincidentally occured on these older beats and definitely fulfilled the replay value that is essentially needed to take music to the next level. Rahiem Supreme most certainly has a solid lyrical depth and flows for a variety of sounds. The old school style is something that mass music heads will definitely appreciate. In regards to replay value I was particularly drawn to the various old school beats Rahiem flowed on. The DMV artist is definitely worth a listen or two check the link for the mixtape. http://www.mediafire.com/?jmlmkz0b2sm9gt7

New Artis Alert: Mara Hruby
Letting go of an artist can be one of the most difficult things in life. All the memories they helped you build to the very day you met them (Musically). In the last three years, all music lovers have lost atleast three significant artist that helped them through whatever situation to the RADIO. Music is so relative to everything that is worth more in its exclusive phase. Finding an artist that sings or raps away your pain while remaining to not fall mainstream is one of the most precious things in the world. Recently losing Frank Ocean to the radio was devastating to all the people who appreciate music because they understand where it's going from here. New artist will rise in his place and we wish him the best of luck.
Today's next best thing came to my attention through an AIM conversation and she shocked me, now refreshing my love for R&B Mara Hruby is surely the neo-soulful talent that has been needed for the last year. Giving her rendition to the likes of Mos Def, D'Angelo and Bob Marley, Mara has shared with her fans a few samples of her favorites. The Oakland, California native found her start in 2010 circulating the Bay and now making her way around the U.S. soothing the spirits of all music lovers.
Mara Hruby has a new EP available for download titled 'From Her Eyes'. Give it a listen and let her take you down a soul-ful journey. The hardest part is going to be, letting her go because she will be a popular voice amongst the latest artist we lost to the Radio.

Check It Out: I should've Kissed You -Chris Brown
Now this is song that strongly recommended for his second single. I know a hit when I hear it.
LeBron Clutch?
Okay, I wouldn't go as far as saying that, just yet at least but I have to give credit where credit is due and King James definitely gets some respect after closing out Game 2 against Chicago.
James scored 9 points over the final 5 minutes of the game to seal the deal for Miami. He finished with 29 to lead the team but that wasn't the only category he led Miami in. He had the most rebounds, assist and steals of any player on the Heat last night. He shot the highest from the field and led the team with 3 pointers made. Yeah you can last night LeBron put his foot down everyone's throat.
On the Bulls side, things were ugly. Derrick Rose shot 7-23 from the field. Loul Deng was the only other Bulls player to score more then 10 points while Carlos Boozer only played 27 minutes. Not good enough for the guy that got that fat contract this off season and no he WASN'T in foul trouble. Only 2 the whole game.
I made this comparison last night via Twitter but I'll make it again here. The 2011 Chicago Bulls are the 2010 San Francisco Giants. Here's why:
The defense of Chicago is the BEST in the league like the Giants pitching was the BEST in the league last year. Though Miami won, they only managed to score 85 points and this team does consist of LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, who along with Chris Bosh, scored 80 points combined multiple times this season.
85 NBA points = 3 MLB runs
Next: The Bulls offense is like the Giants offense from last year because it relies on timely and efficient buckets (to SF's bats) to win games. The Bulls won't blow you out because they don't have that type of offense. If Rose struggles, they all struggle which is why I thought losing out on Ray Allen in the off season and losing out on OJ Mayo at the deadline was a big loss for the Bulls.
But, it was only Game 2 as they say. Series tied at 1 and on to South Beach we go...

Jordan Brand Signs Maya Moore
Today it was announced that Team Jordan has signed its first female athlete, #1 draft pick Maya Moore of the Minnesota Lynx. Moore who starred at UConn is arguably the best women's basketball player ever. It will be interesting to see how Jordan chooses to use Moore and to see if she will be the first female since Sheryl Swoopes to have her own basketball shoe. Maybe Moore signing to Team Jordan is exactly what women's basketball needs to reach new heights.

Norvel Pelle Bringing Cali Sunshine to NYC
On Saturday I got a chance to talk to future St. John's recruit, Norvel Pelle.
The 6'10" big man is one of Coach Steve Lavin's top 100 recruits that are coming in next season.
A very down to earth guy, Pelle really took his time in conversing with me about his decision to come to St. John's and more.
Here's a little excerpt:
From the City of Angels hails another shining star who is making his way to the bright lights of New York City.
Norvel Pelle of Price High School (CA) joins Amir Garrett and Dwayne Polee II as the third recruit from the Golden State to come to Queens in Steve Lavin’s one full year with St. John’s.
Pelle began his high school career at Dominguez (CA), famous for alumni like Dallas Mavericks’ center Tyson Chandler and Milwaukee Bucks’ Brandon Jennings, before transferring to Price. The 6’10” Pelle is bringing his long, lanky frame to the Red Storm, a team for which he believes the sky is the limit.
“I picked [St. John’s] because I felt it would be a perfect situation,” said Pelle. “Having a whole new team and a new coaching staff, we would have a chance to rebuild St. John’s.”
Rose & CHI take Game 1
Lets just say, it was only game one of the series.
Miami last night came out with a great start in the first quarter last night verse the Chicago Bulls, something they haven't been able to do all season.
Chicago though, answered right back with contributions not only from Derrick Rose and Carlos Boozer but the supporting cast Luol Deng, Joakim Noah, Ronnie Brewer and Taj Gibson who was my unsung hero of the game last night.
Rose finished with 28 points, Deng with 21 and Boozer with 14 but Gibson's 9 points were the biggest of them all.
Not only did Gibson serve Wade a facial but he brought energy off the bench for Chicago and helped spark a couple runs. Multiple blocks and nice assist set up other scoring plays and he was a key contributor in shutting down LeBron James when Deng needed a breather.
Miami didn't look out of sync, just were out played. Chicago's defense was SUFFOCATING to say the least.
Chris Bosh finished with a team high 30 points, Wade had 18 and LeBron scored just 15.
Game 1 went to the Bulls because they had a total team effort in the win but remember people, it was only game one.
I expect MIA to get back to to the drawing room and come out in Game 2 with a lot more aggression and make more of a game.

King James Slays Goliath
Quote, "I couldn't do it by myself."
If there is anything to be taken away from LeBron James game 5 triumphant victory over the Boston Celtics is that he knew plan and simple he couldn't beat the Celtics unless he went to a team like Miami who had a star like Dwyane Wade.
With a CLUTCH three over Paul Pierce and then a steal and monster dunk to really seal it off, James made it clear he wasn't going to allow any comebacks.
During the post game press conference, LeBron took a moment out to mention is love for his former teammates in Cleveland as well as the city itself but he knew it had to be done.
"I apologize for the way it happened," LeBron said. "But I knew that this opportunity was once in a lifetime."
Though a lifetime is far from over for James, last night he could breathe a sigh of relief knowing that he had taken the right measures to defeat his greatest opponent, The Boston Celtics.
Yes, David beat Goliath by himself but I'm pretty sure if David could have had some help he would have gladly taken it. LeBron needed help and went out and got it.
Now the test for Miami is preparing for "dinner" against either Chicago or Atlanta and then seeing if they can whip it up come desert time against the winner of the Western Conference.

PENSAR -The List
Most notably, people have been asked to give their top 5 rappers of all time or even top 5 alive. You can imagine the amount of controversy this has caused being that there are so many artists who have shared their rhymes with us, that it is hard to choose the best of the best or even, the best of the worse. In 2008, VIBE magazine, in the same manner in which the NCAA chooses its sweet sixteen, decided to create a voting bracket to put the age-old question (Who is the best rapper alive?) to rest. Out of 100 carefully chosen rappers (it can be argued that rappers were not appropriately matched) readers of the mag took to the internet to vote crowning Eminem the best rapper alive. You can imagine how this would upset the hip-hop community and those with differing opinions.
Well, the engines began turning and in 2009, XXL decided rather than debating the greats, they would showcase the new. So, in 2009 the magazine debuted the XXL Freshman 10 list which included Asher Roth, Wale, B.O.B., Charles Hamilton, Cory Gunz, Blu, Mickey Facts, Ace Hood, Curren$y and Kid Cudi.
The list sought to shine light on artists across the country who were both adept in their craft and positioned for mainstream success. However, it created an uproar among the hip-hop community especially those demanding to know why so and so and so and so did not make the list. However, the artists chosen from that list and the list in the two following years since have gone on to become some of today's best new artists.
To some artists the revealing of these list can be detrimental to their ego, motivation and overall gusto as an artists. Not making a list can fuel jealousy and thoughts of "it should have been me". On the other hand, being named the next big thing can put pressure where it is not wanted or needed. Artists may feel they have to be a certain type of way or force themselves into the mainstream.

Memphis Lights
Memphis, a team that got no national exposure this past season is making sure they take in all that they can get this post season.
After defeating the #1 seeded Spurs 4-2, Memphis came out yesterday and handed the Thunder a beat down in Oklahoma City.
Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol combined for 54 points in the winning effort.
Memphis is doing all of this without their star, Rudy Gay.
Kevin Durant tried all that he could to keep the game close but silly turnovers and wildly possessions ended up costing OKC the game.
Watching Memphis, right now at least, is like watching basketball at its greatest. The Grizzlies players are playing their role whether its Tony Allen playing defense or Mike Conley pressing the ball up court. OJ Mayo has shown patience on the offense and the low post game of Gasol and Z-Bo have been terrific. Only 7 turnovers in yesterdays game.
Call me crazy but this isn't seer luck we are seeing. This is looking like another upset in the brewing.
